After studying French and Spanish at Oxford University, Claire enjoyed a varied career encompassing time as a manager at Barclays Bank, church youth work, tour leading across three continents and finally Head, World Trade at London Chamber of Commerce, leading trade missions to Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia.
Claire gave up her paid job when her daughter was born in 2006, followed by a son in 2008. She joined Mothers at Home Matter in 2007 as she appreciated the encouragement MAHM gave her that her role as a mother was absolutely vital to her children’s happy and fulfilling life.
Claire has been active on various community groups since being at home full time, including being Chair of the local NCT, Chair of the PTA and popping up regularly on the airwaves to point out the flaws in the Government’s latest ‘family friendly’ policy, usually designed to get both parents into work and penalise families with a parent at home. She is passionate about the newsletter, which is designed to encourage members about the importance of being a mother, as well as provide the tools to help members lobby their MPs for families to be given a choice to look after their children themselves, if they wish. She has appeared on Newsnight, Breakfast TV and on various national and local radio programmes.
